Luau Party Tips

Despite the lingering cold temperatures, it's officially the spring season and you know what that means - warm weather, sunny skies and summer just around the corner. But what if you could start the summer early? The good news is: you can! To wash away the winter blues and get into the summer spirit, consider throwing a Hawaiian luau party. We've collected the following tips to help you plan the perfect summer bash. Aloha!

Invitations:
Send guests invitations decorated with tropical flowers and bright colors to set the mood. For added creativity, consider sending invitations in the shape of a sandal or coconut.

Decorations:
To transport your guests to the Hawaiian islands, include decorations that represent Hawaiian culture. The following is a list of decorations that are sure to do the trick:
  1. Tiki lights
  2. Lei necklaces
  3. Sea shells
  4. Grass skirt tablecloths
  5. Bright colored flowers
Menu:
For your menu, select items that are typically associated with Hawaii. Examples include a cucumber salad, egg rolls, ribs, coconut or pineapple cake, and of course, a tropical punch to wash it down. If you're looking to stick with your own favorite foods, consider a buffet where you lay out the food in a tropical design. For example, present your favorite fruits in the shape of a palm tree.

Activities:
To keep guests entertained, include activities such as sand art, hula hooping and limbo. If you anticipate a guest list full of children, consider a station where kids can design their own grass skirts or make their own lei necklaces.
